This is a comprehensive 3 day FETAC level 6 certification course which covers all the essential aspects of the Patient Moving & Handling requirements as outlined in module 6S0243.

Safety Training: Patient Moving Instructor Course - FETAC Level 6

This is a comprehensive 3 day course is designed to provide the learner with the knowledge, practical skills and understanding required to operate effectively in the design and delivery of Patient Moving Instruction.

This course is intended for people who wish to design and deliver courses containing the theory and practical skills and procedures in correct patient moving and handling.

Access

To access programmes leading to this award the learner should have reached the standards of knowledge, skill and competence associated with the preceding level of this award where one exists. This may have been achieved through a formal qualification or through relevant life and work experience. 

Learners who have achieved the Level 6 Specific Purpose Certificate in Manual Handling Instruction may access programmes leading to this award. 

Learners seeking access to programmes leading to this award should have relevant people handling experience

Course Content

• Legislation, specific to Patient Moving and Manual Handling.

• Risk Assessment Principals applied to patients

• Assessing the Task, Individual, Load and Environment

Practical Content

• Practice in independent patients

• Practice in patients requiring aid

• Practice in dependant patients

• Patient Moving Aids

• Mechanical Aids including wheelchair Push & Pull

• Demonstration of Hoist

Grading of the exam is as follows

Pass                                    50% – 64%

Merit                                     65% – 79%

Distinction                          80% – 100%

Certificate: FETAC Level 6 Patient Moving & Handling Instruction.
Certificate Valid For: Continued Professional Development is Recommended every 5 years
Accreditation: FETAC
Public Course Cost: 600 euro per person

Equality, Access, Transfer and Progression

Place on the course are provided on a first come basis. If a course is full additional courses may be scheduled if there is adequate demand. Safety Ireland will at all times ensure equality in our service provision. We therefore ask any learner that has specific learning requirements to contact our office on callsave 1850 555 999 or at the time of booking the training and we will ensure that all possible measure are taken to meet requirements. English is the language that the training in provided in and participants must have a good understanding of the English language, in the case where this is not so participants are permitted to bring an interpreter they may do so but prior notice must be give to Safety Ireland. This course is a modular course and each module has a specific timetable. Participants are not encouraged to attend later modules or exam days on alternative course, but we will try to accommodate participants that cannot complete the course due to circumstances beyond their control on an alternative/ later course. Achievement of this award will enable the learner to transfer to other appropriate programmes leading to awards at the same or lower levels of the national framework of qualifications
