Safety Training: Manual Handling Instructor Course QQI Level 6
This is an Approved Quality and Qualifications Ireland - QQI 5 day course designed to teach participants the core information to be able to design and deliver an operative level Manual Handling Course. Participants wishing to undergo Instructor training should ideally have a current Manual Handling Certificate. However if not, this can be arranged prior to attending the Instructor Programme.

Manual Handling Instructor

This high standard allows us to deliver the best quality training for providers and Instructors. This enables us to provide a complete service of training, assessment and support for Manual Handling Instructor Training.

This 5 day course covers a comprehensive range of topics to prepare the new Instructor to teach the qualified Manual Handler to risk assess and safely carry out manual handling tasks in the workplace. Participants will learn a high level of practical skill and theoretical knowledge, so that they can deal competently with any situation that may arise in the working environment.

  • Introduction of Manual Handling & Back Injury
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Good Posture and Back Care
  • Ergonomics
  • Risk Assessment
  • Principals of Manual Handling
  • Designing and Developing Manual Handling Courses
  • Instructor Training Sessions
  • The Assessment Process and Paperwork Workshop


  • Video based course ensures consistency
  • PowerPoint presentations 
  • Instructor led, hands on class format reinforces skills proficiency

In the classroom, students participate in simulated scenarios. Students work with an Manual Handling Instructor to complete skills practice.

Course Format:

The course requires 5 days to complete, including skills practice. While the main content of the course is general, each course is different in terms of learners, circumstance and requirements. There is an exam and assessment with this course.


  • 60% - Skills Demonstration (2)
  • 20% - Assignment
  • 20% - Written Assessment

Grading of the Exam is as Follows:

  • 50% - 64%   Pass
  • 65% - 79%   Merit
  • 80% - 100% Distinction
Who Should Attend: This course is intended for people who wish to design and deliver courses containing the theory and practical skills and procedures in correct manual handling.

Certificate Valid For: Continued Professional Development is Recommended every 5 years

Just contact us and we will arrange an Instructor for your own location. All we need is a room suitable for the group size. This course is also available for bookings on weekends. This course can also be run for your group at our training centre in Terenure, Dublin. This course can be tailored for your group/company own needs.

Places on the course are provided on a first come basis. If a course is full additional courses may be scheduled if there is adequate demand. English is the language that the training is provided in and participants must have a good understanding of the English language.  If participants prefer they are welcome to bring along an interpreter; however prior notice must be given to Safety Ireland First Response.
