Safety Training: First Aid Response - PHECC |

This is a comprehensive 2 day Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) accredited course which covers all the essential aspects of first aid for the workplace or emergency situation occurring in everyday life.
As of the 1st of September 2017, the Health & Safety Authority will only recognise First Aid Response for newly qualified first aiders in the workplace. All first aiders who previously held Occupational First Aid Certification up to the 31st of August 2017 will refresh to First Aid Response when their certificate is due to expire or during the period of their certification.

In the classroom, students participate in simulated scenarios. Students work with an Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council Instructor to complete skills practice.
Course Format:
The course is 2 full training day including skills practice and assessment. While the course content of the course remains the same for every course, delivery can be altered or adapted to suit learner needs, within reason. There is an assessment with this course for certification.
Assessment:
- Multiply Choice Questions (MCQ)
- Practical Assessment
All assessments are carried out in accordance with PHECC requirements and is internally authenticated before certification is issued. All participants have the right to appeal their results, the appeals procedure is also in accordance with Safety Ireland Guidelines.
All successful candidates in the MCQ and practical exams will be awarded a PHECC certificate which is valid for 2 years.
Grading of the Exam is as Follows:
- To pass this course the participant will need an 80% pass rate.

There is no minimum age requirement set out in the current Education & Training Standards, however an individual should be mature enough to comprehend the knowledge, skills and implications associated with defibrillation and have a maturity to complete assessment to receive certification. Currently recognised institutions use 16 years of age as a benchmark.
